Dr. Jeffrey E. Michelman

Dr. Michelman is a Professor of Accounting and Co-Director of the Flagship program in International Business at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, where he has been on the faculty for the past twenty-one years. He is a recipient of the Coggin College of Business’ Distinguished Business Leaders Award, the University of North Florida’s Outstanding Research, Undergraduate Teaching, Faculty Service and Outstanding International Service awards. Prior to joining UNF, Jeff spent four years on the faculty at Penn State University and was a Bank Examiner with the FDIC in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Field Office. Dr. Michelman is both a CPA and CMA. Jeff is a 1996 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Delaware in accounting and economics, his M.H.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and both an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. degree in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his major was Accounting and minor fields were Health Care Fiscal Management and Administrative Medicine. He has published articles in a variety of information systems, accounting, international business and healthcare journals. He has written three textbooks and developed several computer software programs to integrate technology into the accounting curriculum. Dr. Michelman has taught in Paris, France; Guangzhou, China; Warsaw, Poland and Fiji at the University of the South Pacific where he was a visiting scholar in 2005. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Warsaw University where he lectures each year. He has been a member of several visiting committees of the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Michelman lectures extensively to practitioners on Sarbanes-Oxley, Internal Control, Corporate Governance, Disaster Planning, Accounting Fraud, the Internet and the overall use of Accounting and Technology in Healthcare and other service organizations.

Dr. Michelman was a member of the editorial review board of Research in Healthcare Financial Management for 13 years, has received the outstanding reviewer award from the North American Case Research Association’s (NACRA) Case Research Journal and the Outstanding member award from the World Association of Case Research and Application (WACRA). Jeff served as a member of the national Healthcare Financial Management Association's Accounting Principles and Practices Board from 1999-2002, where he served on the on the Business Combinations and Corporate Compliance sub-committees. He was President of the Florida Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association for 1998-99, and received the Medal of Honor in 2006. He was a member of the 1997/98 National HFMA Task Force on the Future of the Healthcare Financial Management Profession. Jeff is an active member of the Oceanside Rotary club where he has served as a member of the Board of Directors and currently chairs the New Generations Avenue as well as chairing the regional Ambassadorial Scholarship Selection Committee; was a member of the Youth Leadership Jacksonville Council where he is a Past Chairman and a member of the Leadership Jacksonville Board of Directors and executive committee where he served as chair of the development committee and treasurer. Dr. Michelman was a member of the inaugural class of the Community Coaches Program which was jointly sponsored by the DuPont and Jacksonville Community Foundations. He currently serves as a consultant to several Non-Profit organizations in Jacksonville. Dr. Michelman currently serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Career Academies of Marketing and International Business at Ponte Vedra High School. Jeff served as the president of UNF’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (the international Business Honor Society) from 2007-2010. Currently Jeff is the founding advisor and club liaison to UNF’s Rotaract Club which began in August 2010.
