BS-Construction Major Concentration Other

The Bldg Const Mgt (BCM) academic program recently under went an accreditation review by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The changes being made in the BCM curriculum and Program of Study are in response to recommendations made by the ACCE.
New concentrations are being added to provide the opportunity for a BCM student to focus on certain aspects of construction such as commercial or residential construction. Two new courses are added for these purposes, BCN 4XXX (3CH) Commercial Construction and BCN 4xxx(3CH) Heavy/Civil Construction. These two new courses along with existing courses BCN 4587(3CH) Green Construction and Sustainability and BCN 4752(3CH) Housing and Land Development allow a student to have a concentration. A BCM student will now take two of these four courses. Note that BCN 4587 and BCN 4752 are having their names changed.
A new course , BCN 1210C (3CH) Construction Materials is being added to the Program of Study (POS). This course is a consolidation of BCN 1210(3CH) Construction Materials and BCN 1210L (1CH) Construction Materials Lab. This new course combines the previous course and its associated lab.
Two courses are deleted and will no longer be part of the POS. The deleted courses are BCN 1210(3CH) Construction Materials and BCN 1210L (1CH) Construction Materials Lab. The extra 1 CH is being used for a new course in the POS requested by the ACCE, BCN 4931(1CH) Seminars: Construction Management.
A new course co requisite is added to the BCM POS, BCN 4931(1CH) Seminars: Construction Management is now a co requisite of BCN 4709(3CH) Construction Project Management Capstone (formerly BCN 4709(3CH) Managing Building Construction Projects prior to the name change). BCN 4931(1CH) Seminars: Construction Management provides for additional instruction on capstone projects.
A new course is added to the BCM curriculum, BCN 49XX (3CH) Directed Individual Study. The BCM academic program is planning on international travel to study buildings and structures in other cultures and is also planning to introduce undergraduate research fellowships. BCN 49XX (3CH) Directed Individual Study provides a means to offer a BCM student with a transformational experience.
Several courses have name changes to better reflect the course content. These courses are BCN 3012(3CH) History of Construction is renamed BCN (3CH) History and Introduction to Construction; BCN 4587(3CH) Environmental Issues in Land Development and Construction is renamed BCN 4587(3CH) Green Construction and Sustainability; BCN 4709(3CH) Managing Building Construction projects is renamed BCN 4709(3CH) Construction Project Management Capstone; and BCN 4752 (3CH) Site Analysis and Development is renamed BCN 4752(3CH) Housing and Land Development.
Seven courses have their perquisite or co requisite modified . BCN 3561(3CH) Mechanical Systems prerequisite is changed from BCN 1210(3CH) Construction Materials to PHY 2054(3CH) Physics II. BCN 3223(3CH) Soils and Foundations has the prerequisite changed from BCN 1210(3CH) Construction Materials to BCN 1210C (3CH) Construction Materials so that the Program of Study is consistent with the curriculum changes. BCN 3611(3CH) Construction Cost Estimating has the prerequisite changed from BCN 1210(3CH) Construction Materials to BCN 1210C (3CH) Construction Materials so that the Program of Study is consistent with the curriculum changes. BCN 4284(3CH) Survey: Construction Layout adds the prerequisite is PHY 2054(3CH) Physics II. BCN 4730(3CH) Construction Safety adds the prerequisite BCN 3762(3CH) Construction and Codes. BCN 4772(3CH) Construction Administration and Economics adds the prerequisite BCN 4720(3CH) Construction Planning and Scheduling. BCN 4931(1CH) Seminars: Construction Management now becomes a co requisite to BCN 4709(3CH) Construction Project Management Capstone. Note that BCN 4709(3CH) was formerly called Managing Building Construction Projects.
The BCM Program of Study has no change to the total number of credit hours required,
126 CH.
