SDS 6427 |
School Counselors and Special Needs Students
Delete SDS 6427 School Counselors and Special Needs Students from the school counseling track program of study. School counseling students will take SDS 6411 Counseling Children and Adolescents (an existing course) instead.
Rationale: The mental health track and the school counseling track currently co-list SDS 6427 School Counselors and Special Needs Students and SDS 6411 Counseling Children and Adolescents. We are going to require SDS 6411 Counseling Children and Adolescents for students in the school counseling track, thereby eliminating the need for SDS 6427.

M.Ed.-EDLS Major EDA Track
Summary of the Changes:
This change removes the option to take EITHER EDA 6503, The School Principal, OR EDA 6061, Introduction to Educational Leadership. The result being that EDA 6061 will be a required course for all students in the program.
The program of study is being revised in order to ensure that we better prepare our students for the Florida Educational Leadership Licensure Examination (FELE). The course, The School Principal (EDA 6503), is much narrower in scope than the course, Introduction to School Leadership (EDA 6061). We believe, based upon feedback and assessment that all students should take the latter (EDA 6061) and that The School Principal (EDA 6503) should be offered as an elective for those interested specifically in pursuing the school principalship.
