Amended Resolution
December 2, 2004
Whereas, discrimination in any form is not sanctioned by the University of North Florida; and
Whereas, the UNF Student Government maintains its own constitution with its own anti-discrimination policy, Article XI of which reads, in part: "Discrimination shall be defined as the differential treatment of a student solely on the basis of his or her race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, parental status, disability, or any combination thereof. Discrimination shall further be defined as the denial of due process or the infringement of rights of any student;" and
Whereas, actions taken within the Student Government, hostile comments made inside and outside of classrooms, and a perceived lack of responsiveness from the administration to concerns over safety and feelings of discrimination have led UNF's gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students to feel alienated on our campus;
It is hereby resolved, that the Faculty Association of the University of North Florida goes on record as affirming its opposition to discrimination based on sexual orientation against any member of the university community, and most especially discrimination against students; and
Be it further resolved, that the Association calls on all members of the university community - students, faculty, staff, and administration - to monitor and enforce UNF's anti-discrimination policies and to foster a welcoming environment for all members of a diverse campus community. |
