The following standards concerning general purpose classrooms shall be implemented in all new construction, all renovations, and, wherever possible in existing classrooms:
All general purpose non-fixed seating classrooms shall be reevaluated and classroom caps adjusted based both on limit recommendations made by the faculty teaching regularly in those rooms, and on accepted teaching practices and principles. The number of chairs in the classrooms shall be limited to an acceptable number less than the maximum recommended by the Fire Marshall. If a faculty member has a class requiring group discussion type of instruction, the number and configuration of chairs shall be adjusted to fit the requirement.
Frequent and thorough cleaning of classrooms shall be carried out. Materials requiring less maintenance and less prone to dirt infusion (like vinyl flooring) shall be considered.
Whenever possible, projection screens shall be located in such a way that they leave a substantial portion of the writing surface free for use while they are being used. If not possible, a secondary writing surface shall be installed in an unobscured, accessible location.
Wherever possible and in all new construction, all controls (e.g. for the overhead screen, Davis projector, outlets for overhead projector, dimmers etc) should be placed within reach of the instructor's position in the classroom.
When additional chalk/whiteboards are installed,
the seating configuration should be changed to make them accessible
