(written follow-up) I am not inquiring into the
permeative properties and penumbras of collegiality as they may
pertain to the many dimensions constituting the academic organism.
I am asking a legal question: Section 4 of Article 5 of the Contract
which mandates collegiality is not included in the corresponding
Chapter 10 of the Faculty Handbook. Does this mean that with the
expiration of the Contract next month that the administration
will no longer have the authority to take disciplinary action
against faculty whom it deems uncollegial? If the administration
will have this authority, what will be the legal justification
for it? The background to this is that the "collegiality
clause," as it is called, was added to the contract only
several years ago. Prior to that, there was no provision for the
administration to discipline faculty for uncollegiality. |

Subject: Response to Scott Hochwald 10/03/02 library question
The library is an E&G funded unit. The director of the library
has the responsibility to operate within the assigned budget. Last
fiscal year all units faced a permanent budget cut. Aditionally,
historically the Library has received non-recurring funding from the
Legislature, in decreasing amounts over the past several years. These
cuts are unfortunate. However, there are no special funds currently
available to restore those budgets cuts. Library staff will continue
to work closely with faculty units to maintain its collection within
its funding authorization.
