COLLEGE OF COMPUTING SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING

Undergraduate

Computer and Information Sciences

02-223 APC 3   BS: Computers & Information Sciences : Track: Information Sciences
ABET accreditation guidelines for Information Science programs state the curriculum must include at least 9 semester hours of quantitative analysis including statistics. In order to conform to these guidelines, we are adding a statistics course (STA2023, 3 credits) as a foundation class for this track and decreasing the free elective category from 9 to 6 credits.

Electrical Engineering

02-285 APC 3   BS: Electrical Engineering: Track: Systems Design
This request is to modify the System Design Track of Electrical Engineering to better prepare the students for the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination. This is accomplished by the change of the Mechanics requirements. In addition, three new courses are added to Technical Electives. These will add a new focus area in Power to the already existing focus areas of Communications, Solid State Electronics, and DSP and Control. Engineering Mechanics is replaced by separate courses in Statics and Dynamics. One course is added to Core Requirements. The Major requirement is changed to selection of 3 out of 4 courses. Technical Electives are increased to 11 hours. Three new courses are added to Technical Electives.

02-286 APC 1 EEL 4242C Power Electronic Circuits ( 4 credits)
This course involves circuit topologies, analysis, design and simulation of electronic circuits. Power supplies and motor drives are also studied.
Prerequisites: EEL 3304 Electronics Circuits 1

02-287 APC 1 EEL 4230 Electronic Drives and Motor Control ( 3 cr)
This course involves the analysis and design of AC and DC motor controls with semiconductor converter drives. The controlled rectifier and chopper drives method is studied for DC motors and the cycloconverter and inverter drives method is studied for AC motors.
Prerequisites: EEL 3211 Basic Electric Energy Engineering; EEL 3112 Electrical Network Theory

02-288 APC 1 EEL 4201L Electrical Energy Conversion Lab ( 1 credit)
This course involves the study of electric energy conversion, devices and systems.
Prerequisites: EEL 3211 Basic Electric Energy Engineering
