This proposal is a request to change the Instructional Technology track of the Elementary Education major. The proposal is part of a package of related requests. The Curriculum and Instruction department currently has four instructional technology tracks, and we wish to reduce the number while updating out- dated tracks to current practice. Three new courses are being added (EMD 6xxx Telecommunications in Education, EMD 6xxx Educational Technology Systems, and EME 6xxx Technology for Special Populations). Courses are also being removed from the program (MAE 6317, EDG 6336, EDF 6442, EDF 5608, EDG 5935, EDF 6380, EME 6601, SCE 5737). Title and description changes are also occurring for the following courses: EDG 6434, EME 6405, EME 5403, EME 6415, EME 7415.

02-156R APC 3   MED: Secondary Education Track: Professional Education
This change in the track creates a 15 hour required "core" of Curriculum and Instruction courses, replacing confusing select-from electives on the POS. The common core subjects have been updated. Cohorts of students can have up to 12 credits of their program customized to specific needs of a school/school district/or project.

02-181 APC 3   MED: Elementary Education: Initial Certification (1-6) track
The Department of Education has issued new rules, which govern certification requirements for teacher education in all fields of study. This requires ensuring that programs in Elementary Education contain 12 hours of literacy courses and that additional courses be added to meet the ESOL requirements. Several courses are being added to the program prerequisites (EDG 6250, EDF 6442, MGF 1107) and other courses are being added to the program required courses (LAE 6415, TSL 3550, TSL 4340). Some courses are being removed from the program (EDG 3323, EDG 4327, MAE 2801, MUT 1001, EDF 5608 and EDG 6356).
