Use of Music and Amplified Sound in the Courtyard and on the Green

The mission of the University of North Florida is to provide an intellectually stimulating and caring environment, which enables students to achieve their highest potential through learning. As such, one of the University's main institutional priorities is to maintain a campus environment that fosters excellent teaching. In addition, an important part of the University experience is the opportunity for students to become involved in campus life through a variety of athletic teams, student clubs, and extracurricular programs and activities. Currently, both the Courtyard and the Green are attractive sites for many such extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, given their proximity to classrooms and faculty offices they are not always the most appropriate sites for activities that involve music and amplified sound. Until such time as the University can provide for more appropriate locations for such activities:

The Courtyard

No music or any activity involving amplified sound shall be permitted in the Courtyard while classes are in session, Monday through Saturday.

The Green

Amplified sound will be permitted on the Green Monday through Thursday between noon and 1:30 p.m., no more frequently than three times a semester.

Events involving amplified sound may also be held any time Friday and Saturday after
3:50 p.m. and any time on Sunday.

When events involving amplified sound are planned for the Green, the Office of Student Development will coordinate with others on campus responsible for event planning. Every effort must be made to avoid having events on the Green conflict with other University events, particularly those planned for the Fine Arts Building.

Faculty who have offices in or who teach in buildings adjacent to the Green must be notified no later than two weeks prior to the event. Faculty wishing to relocate their classes during these events should contact the Registrar's Office at ext. 2620.

Loudspeakers used during these events must continue to be pointed south toward the Andrew Robinson Student Life Center.
