02-003 APC 1 EEC 4XXX Measurement, Evaluation, and Planning for Early Literacy Development (3 cr.)
Prerequisite: LAE 3XXX

Foundations of Literacy;
Teaching Beginning Reading and Writing
Corequisite: None
Students will learn formal and informal assessment strategies related to planning literacy instruction. Students select and implement tools and procedures, interpret and apply findings. No new faculty or additional resources are required for this course.


02-007 APC 2 EEC 4213 Integrated Reading, Literature, and Language Arts (3 cr.)
This request is to change the title of the course to "Teaching Beginning Reading and Writing", change the course description and the prerequisites of the course.


02-009 APC 2 EEC 4603 Child Guidance/Classroom Management
(2 cr.)
This request is to terminate this course.


02-010 APC 3 BAE: Elementary Education -
PreK-Primary
The state now mandates 12 hours of literacy and 6 credit hours of TESOL instruction. The following additions are the result of those mandates. Subsequent changes are needed to maintain credit hour ceilings: Addition: TSL 3550-Principles and Issues in TESOL and TSL 4340-TESOL Methods and Curriculum. This results in a change in the total number of hours in the program from 60 to 66 hrs. Addition: Two courses will add six (6) hours of Early Literacy-LAE 3XXX-Foundationd of Literacy and EEC 4XXX Measurement, Evaluation, and Planning for Early Literacy Development. Change: EEC 3731-Health, Nutrition, and Safety is changed from a 3 to a 2 credit course. Termination: EEC 4603 Child Guidance/Classroom Management is terminated. Delete from program: EDG 3323-The Learning Process.


02-012 APC 3 BAE: Elementary Education - 1-6
This is a proposal is to revise the BAE in elementary education 1-6 by adding 4 new courses. Credit hours on two courses have been changed from 3 to 4 credits and pre-requisites have been changed on 2 courses. Three courses have been terminated and three courses have been removed from the program of study.


02-013 APC 1 LAE 3XXX Methods & Resources for
Literacy Development (6 cr.)
Prerequisite: LAE 3XXX Foundations of Literacy
Corequisite: None
This is the second of three literacy courses in the Elementary Education Program. It expands upon the concepts learned in Foundations of Literacy and applies them for teaching applications. No new faculty or additional resources are required for this course.


02-014 APC 1 LAE 4XXX Measurement, Evaluation, and Planning
for Literacy Development (3 cr)
Prerequisite: LAE 3XXX Methods & Resources for Literacy Development
Corequisite: None
This course will enable persevere teachers to understand the scope and place of diagnosis and subsequent literacy instruction in the literacy development program; the roles played by the classroom teacher and other specialized personnel in the school; the wise use of a variety of diagnostic tools (tests and other measurement techniques) to measure literacy ability, and based on such measurement, evaluate the student's literacy abilities; the planning and implementation of an appropriate instructional program based on such an evaluation. No new faculty or additional resources are required for this course.


2-015 APC 1 LAE 3XXX Foundations of Literacy (3 cr)
Prerequisite: None
Corequisite: None
This is the first of three literacy courses in the Elementary education Program. It forms the basis for understanding language development, theories of language, and the issues and experiences important to the development of literacy. This course must be taken prior to the second literacy course. No new faculty or additional resources are required for this course.


02-016 APC 1 EDG 3XXX Methods of Conceptual Teaching (3 cr)
Prerequisite: None
Corequisite: None
This course is designed to familiarize students with key aspects of conceptual teaching and learning. Concepts from several areas of the elementary curriculum will be used as the contextual backdrop. Other courses in the elementary Education Program will build on the methodology advocated in this course. No new faculty or additional resources are required for this course.


02-017 APC 2 MAE 3312 Mathematics Methods for elementary Teachers (4 cr.)
This request is to change the course credits from three to four in an effort to meet the recommendation of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Prerequisites are also being changed.


02-018 APC 2 SSE 3313 Social Studies Methods for Elementary
Teachers (4 cr.)
This request is to change the pre-requisites for the course and to increase from 3 to 4 credits. Course objectives and topics have changed.


02-019 APC 2 TSL 3550 Principles and Issues in TESOL
This request is to change the prerequisites because the elementary education program has been revised. The new prerequisite will ensure that students are prepared to apply the course concepts. The State of Florida also now requires this course to fulfill ESOL mandates for elementary education majors.


02-020 APC 2 TSL 4340 TESOL Methods and Curriculum
This request is to change the prerequisites because the elementary education program has been revised. The new prerequisite will ensure that students are prepared to apply the course concepts. The State of Florida also now requires this course to fulfill ESOL mandates for elementary education majors.


02-021 APC 2 EDE 3940 Integrated Learning Environments (3 cr.)
