INFORMATION ITEM #3-A
Memorandum To Provost Kline Regarding Department
Reorganization Procedures Submitted By The Executive Committee

MEMORANDUM
June 20, 2002
| To: |
David Kline,
Provost & Vice President |
| From: |
Cheryl Frohlich, Faculty Association Vice-President / Executive
Committee Chair
Kathleen Cohen, Faculty Association President |
| Re: |
Department Reorganization Procedures |
The Executive Committee requested at
the April meeting that the procedures for requesting faculty approval
on reorganization of administrative units be clarified for the Academic
Affairs Office.
Administrative Unit Reorganization Approval Procedures:
1.
Once the affected unit's faculty have met and
decided upon a desired course of action, this request is to be submitted
to the Executive Committee through the Vice-President of the Faculty
Association prior to any further action being taken by the unit
involved.
2.
The Vice-President, as Chair of the Executive Committee,
will present the request to the Committee for its recommendation. |
3.
The Executive Committee may recommend (1) sending
the request to the appropriate Faculty Association committee for further
consideration, or (2) considering the proposal within the Executive
Committee. In addition, the Executive Committee may, at its discretion,
send the proposal to other college/division/department curriculum
committees it judges to be most directly affected for comments. |
4.
After receiving comments from the committees, the
Executive Committee will schedule a public hearing on the proposal.
This step is to ensure all constituencies, including students, have
a chance to comment on the proposal. |
5.
After the open hearing, the Executive Committee
will submit the proposal to the Faculty Association for a vote. |
| I hope this memo clarifies the procedures
that are involved in a unit's reorganization. Attached is the information
item adopted on March 24, 1987 updated with the correction of committee
names and any article references from the current Faculty Association
Bylaws. Faculty Association's approval is necessary prior to taking
any action on the reorganization of the unit. |
