Reduction of Paperwork

The Academic Standards Committee recommends the modified withdrawal process in the proposal.

Proposal:
Revise the 'Request for Withdrawal After the Established Deadline Form' to require
only one approval as shown in the attached form.

Rationale:
1. A faculty committee at the Academic Affairs Annual Retreat 2001 recommended a reduction in paperwork load. In response, the Office of Records and Registration requested that the ASC make recommendations on the Request for Withdrawal After the Established Deadline Form.

2. The ASC recommends reducing the number of signatures required for approval from 4 down to 1 in order to simplify this procedure. The signatures of the Chair, Advisor and Vice President are redundant. The Dean/ Dean's Designee is best suited to decide who needs to approve this request and should have the authority to establish the most efficient process for each College.

3. The ASC recommends moving the Instructor's Signature line closer to the top of the form. This makes it clear that the faculty member is only responsible for grading, not approving late withdrawals. Also, it insures that the student knows the grade prior to investing his/her time in the late withdrawal process.
