Support for Multiple Platforms for Web-based Instruction
The University shall provide technical support and resources for the three software platforms currently in use for developing web-based courses - Web-CT, Lotus Learning Space, & BlackBoard.

Rationale:
The faculty who have been trained in, and are now successfully using Web-CT to develop, support and enhance Web-based instruction have been in the forefront of the University's initiative to offer online instruction and distance learning courses. They have invested much time and concentration in learning, training and working with this software with the expectation that there would be a long-term commitment by the university for continuing support. Since the introduction of Web-CT on campus, other platforms have been added and some faculty have begun to use BlackBoard or Lotus Learning Space with equal commitment and success. It has become clear that one platform is not adequate to support Web-based courses in all disciplines, colleges, or programs. We believe the choice of platform should be an instructional rather than an administrative issue. Therefore, the proposition that the campus continue its support for all three platforms is intended to encourage those faculty interested in developing online courses, and to allow each one the freedom to choose the software platform best suited to their needs.
