Undergraduate00-021 APC1 TSL 4xxx TESOL Methods and Curriculum This course is designed to assist students in integrating the theories and principles of second language learning and applying them to classroom instruction. ESOL methodology and curriculum will be emphasized as they relate to current best practice in ESOL instruction. A field experience requiring students to work in classrooms serving English language learners is required. 00-022 APC1 TSL 3xxx Principles and Issues in TESOL This course covers issues basic to understanding legal and social imperatives in teaching English language learners in K-12 settings as well as theories and principles of second language acquisition. Rationale for the following two requests: The Florida Department of Education encourages programs of teacher education to revise program requirements so that students will graduate with the equivalent of the state endorsement in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The two courses added by this requested change will provide in-depth study of second language theory, curriculum, and methods that students are required to have for the ESOL endorsement. The State of Florida is granting permission to universities who meet the ESOL endorsement to increase their programs to 126 hours with the addition of two TESOL courses. The addition of these two elective courses will enable program graduates to receive the State of Florida TESOL endorsement and eliminates the need for graduates to pursue 300 in-service hours or five graduate level courses in TESOL. 00-023 APC3 Bachelor of Arts in Education - Pre-Kindergarten/Primary Add two courses-TSL4xxx and TSL3xxx-to the program of study. This addition enables program graduates to receive the State of Florida ESOL endorsement
