There are a number of vacancies which have come up over the summer on various Faculty Association and other campus committees which need faculty representation. This is an opportunity for meaningful participation in the faculty governance process for those of you who may have been off-campus last year when committee elections were held or those of you new to this campus. Volunteers for these openings are requested. In a couple of weeks, candidates from among the volunteers can be appointed to fill the vacancies by the Faculty Association President, in most cases. The following is a listing of the committees with known vacancies at this time (and their required qualifications, where applicable):
This new Standing Committee was added by an amendment to the Bylaws in May. The committee is charged with reviewing and recommending "policies with regard to the appointment, evaluation, retention, professional development, ethics, affirmative action, and teaching methods of adjunct faculty; their instructional support; their orientation and training; their advancement; and such other matters as may pertain to the role of adjunct faculty..." .
The Faculty Affairs Committee is a standing committee of the Association which reviews and recommends "policies regarding evaluation, promotion and tenure, professional development, release time, ethics, affirmative action, teaching methods, honorary degrees and such other matters that customarily concern the faculty"
The Nominations & Elections Committee conducts elections of officers, standing committees and delegates.
The Safety Council oversees all safety issues on campus and reports directly to the University President. Volunteers need not be safety experts, just willing to take a campus-wide view.
The Sustained Performance Appeals Committee hears all appeals (if any) which may result from the implementation of the state-mandated Sustained Performance Evaluation process. Volunteers may not have supervisory administrative positions over faculty lines.
The Honors Council provides advisory supervision, long-range planning and assessment for the Honors Program.)
The Parking Committee provides input on policies and planning with regard to all parking on campus. Any faculty member interested in being considered for appointment to one of these committees should immediately contact either Faculty President Chris Rasche at crasche or x2758 or Nominations and Elections Committee chairperson Barbara Tuck at btuck or x2616. Thank you.
