ITEM # 5 -- FA 99-20: Submitted by the Academic Standards Committee. College of Health POLICY ON PROGRESSION Students admitted and enrolling in the Baccalaureate Nursing Program will be subject to a more stringent policy that supersedes the UNF policy on grade forgiveness. Departmental policies related to grade forgiveness and the impact on progression are contained in the Department of Nursing Student Handbook. The handbook is a required text for each nursing course and is reviewed with students during the first semester of course work, specifically in NUR 3119. The progression policy is designed to ensure that the public receives health care from nursing professionals who are safe and competent in all areas of practice. The Department of Nursing policy consists of the following components: 1) Successful completion of a course is defined as a grade of "C" or better. For the clinical portion of a course, successful completion is defined as "satisfactory." 2) Students will be allowed to repeat only one course within the professional curriculum upon receipt of a grade less than "C" or, for the clinical portion of a course, an "unsatisfactory." 3) Terms and conditions of repetition of a given course will be determined by program faculty and communicated to the student in writing. 4) The Department of Nursing policy affects only the student's standing within the nursing program. A student withdrawing from, or dismissed from, the nursing program may remain in good standing within the University and be subject once again to the UNF policy on grade forgiveness.
