COLLEGE OF HEALTH Department of Nursing 98-150 APC 3 MS in Nursing This request changes three course descriptions to more accurately reflect course content (NGR 5601C, 6602C, and 6603C). Credit hours are being reduced on one clinical practice course and increased on another, with no net change in program credit hours (NGR 6602C from 6 to 3 credit hours; and NGR 6603C from 3 to 6 credit hours). Pre and corequisites are being changed on Thesis/Project courses to allow them to be taken earlier in the program of study. Pre and corequisites are being changed on NGR 5001C and NGR 5601C to allow for more flexibility within the program of study. 98-151 APC 2 NGR 5001C (3 cr) Health Assessment & Diagnostics This change reduces the number of pre /corequisites by removing NGR 5601C as a corequisite. 98-152 APC 2 NGR 5601C (3 cr) Advanced Nursing Practice I This request: (1) changes the course description to: Introduction to advanced nursing practice of acute, self-limiting, common health problems of culturally diverse clients across the life span. Emphasis is on pathology, assessment, diagnoses, therapeutic modalities and evaluation related to management of selected acute health problems; and (2) adds NGR 5110 as a pre/corequisite. 98-153 APC 2 NGR 6602C (6 cr) Advanced Nursing Practice II This request changes the course description to more accurately reflect what is being taught and reduces the credit hours from 6 to 3. It accompanies 98-154 and results in no increase in net program hours 98-154 APC 2 NGR 6603C (3 cr) Advanced Nursing Practice III This request changes the course description to more accurately reflect what is being taught and increases credit hours from 3 to 6. It accompanies 98-153 and results in no increase in net 98-155 APC 2 NGR 6970 PROJECT After careful reflection, the faculty determined that students would be better served if they took this course earlier in the program of study in conjunction with or following completion of the first advanced nursing practice course. Therefore, NGR 6602C and NGR 6603C are being removed from the pre / corequisite requirements. 98-156 APC 2 NGR 6971 THESIS This change reduces the pre / corequisites by removing NGR 6602C and NGR 6603C, thus enabling students to take the course earlier in the program of study. Department of Health Science 98-191 APC 3 MS in Health / Specialization in Community Health These changes are designed to bring the existing MSH degree specialization in Community Health into conformity with the standards for accrediting graduate public health programs in Community Health Education. The changes include adding one new elective course (HSC 6XXX, International Health); upgrading one course from 5000 to 6000 level (HSC 5205, Public Health Theory and Practice); and adding a 9 credit hour internship. 98-192 APC 1 HSC 6XXX (3 cr) International Health The purpose of this course is to discuss the status of world health, the progress achieved over the past decade and challenges for the future. The course will address the critical questions of international cooperation and the interaction between social change and health problems. This course will be an elective within a major program. 98-193 APC 1 HSC 6XXX (3 cr) Applied Health Statistics This course provides an overview of statistical applications for health care and public health. Emphasis is on common application used by health care and public health practitioners. Use of computerized statistical packages commonly used by health care and public health care practitioners is an integral part of the course. Prerequisite: 1 undergraduate statistics course or equivalent. This is a requirement within a major program. 98-194 APC 2 HSC 5205 (3 cr) Public Health Theory and Practice This request changes the course level from 5000 to 6000. The change is required to meet the accreditation requirements for graduate public health programs in Community Health Education. 98-195 APC 3 Rehabilitation Counseling The Rehabilitation Counseling Program is being changed to meet standards set forth by the accrediting body for such programs, The National Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE). Course changes are relatively minor, but provide a better focus on the rehabilitation counseling field. Overall requirements for the degree are decreased from 50 to 48 credit hours. Changes include 1 new course (98-196); four course changes (98-197 through 98-200); and 7 course deletions. 98-196 APC 1 RCS 6XXX (3 cr) Case Management in Rehabilitation This course provides an overview of the case management process, including service coordination, community resources, and specialized services for different populations with disabilities. Case management practices and procedures in both private and public rehabilitation programs are addressed. This is requirement within the major. 98-197 APC 2 RCS 6XXX (2 cr) Practicum II/ Advanced Practicum in Rehabilitation Counseling This request changes the credit hours from 2 to 3 and changes the title to "field Practicum in Rehabilitation Counseling". It also eliminates prerequisite RCS 5800, Practicum I. 98-198 APC 2 RCS 6825 (variable) Internship in Rehabilitation Counseling This request changes the credit hours from 12 per semester to 6 or 12 per semester to reach a total of 12. It also requests elimination of "all rehabilitation course work" as a prerequisite. 98-199 APC 2 RCS 6320 (3 cr) Job Development, Placement, & Follow-up This request changes the course title to "vocational Development and Placement" and eliminates the current prerequisite (RCS 5080). 98-200 APC 2 RCS 5220 (3 cr) Rehabilitation Client Assessment Eliminates RCS 5080, Medical Aspects of Disability, as a prerequisite. ************************************************************************************ Information Item: APC2 forms (minor) approved by Academic Affairs.
