98-180       APC 3       Classroom Mgmt/ Child Guidance -- (track within Elementary Education)

This change replaces a 2 hour elective with a new 2 hour course, Classroom Mgmt / Child Guidance (98-181). This new course is required by the Florida Department of Education.

98-181       APC 1       EDG 4905       (2 cr)       Classroom Mgmt/Child Guidance

This course covers skills and competencies needed for classroom management / child guidance and ability to communicate expectations and behaviors to children, parents and others in the school community. Methods and strategies to assist young children in developing prosocial skills in a developmentally appropriate program that creates a positive, caring environment for young children. Prerequisite: EEC 4260. This course will be required within the major.

98-188       APC 3       Middle School Education -- English/Social Science Option

The proposed lower-division changes will allow the substitution of newly developed courses in economics, geography, and American history. In addition, a lower-division speech course has been added, as well as two upper division English courses. All of these courses will enable students in the Middle School Education, English/Social Science track to better meet the Florida Department of Education certification competencies for Middle Grades English and Social Science 5 - 9.
