Emphasis will be placed on the interpersonal aspects of effective behavior. It is an elective within the major Psychology major. 98-133 APC 1 PSY 3XXX (1 cr) Major in Psychology Seminar This course provides a broad overview of educational and professional issues that are of relevance to students majoring, or considering a major in psychology. Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies 98-148 APC 1 AMH 2XXX (3 cr) U. S. History Survey This is a one semester course examining significant events and themes of the American past and the men, women, institutions, ideas and forces that have shaped that past into our contemporary civilization. This will be a service course. 98-149 APC 2 AMH 3220 (3cr) Gilded Age / Progressive Era This request changes the title of the course to : The Making of Modern America. Department of Music 98-112 APC 1 MUT 4XXX (2 cr) Composition and Improvisation This course will include both imitative and original composition as well as experimental and nontraditional styles. In addition, students will be given assignments in improvisation. The course will be required within the Music major. 98-115 APC 3 Bachelor of Music The request adds a two credit course in Composition and Improvisation (98-112) and a three credit course in World Music (98-176) and decreases the free electives in the program of study by five credits to produce no net change in program hours. 98-176 APC 1 MUL 4XXX (3 cr) World Music This course deals with the native music of Indian Asia, China, Japan, Korea, and Africa. Students will become acquainted with the music of these countries and continents through selected musical examples and extensive listening assignments. Department of Mathematics and Statistics 98-175 APC 1 MTG 3203 (3cr) Geometry for Middle School Teachers This course is primarily based on a discovery approach to plane Euclidean geometry. Triangles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circles, and other geometric figures will be investigated. Logical reasoning will be used to prove or disapprove conjectures. Computer programs such as Geometer's Sketchpad might be used in this course. This course cannot be used to fulfill a degree requirement in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Prerequisites: 9 hours of college mathematics. This course is required in the middle school degree/ certification program. Department of English and Foreign Languages 98-178 APC 3 BA in English This request adds a course, Literary Themes (98-179) as an elective in the English major and the English minor program for the department. 98-179 APC 1 LIT 4603 (3 cr) Literary Themes This course will analyze literary themes as they occur in several genres, periods, texts, or traditions. The course may be repeated for credit with variable content. The course will be an elective within the major and minor.
