New Degree Request:  Convert existing track in Health Administration to a
                                 Bachelor Health Administration (BHA) degree.

The Department of Public Health is proposing that the health administration track under the Bachelor of Science in Health (BSH) degree be changed to a Bachelor in Health Administration (BHA) Degree. The request to create a separate degree for the health administration track is based on the fact that those health administration students complete a different set of prerequisites and graduate with a different body of knowledge and different skill sets than students completing the other BSH tracks. The health administration curriculum is designed to meet the standards set for health management education by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). UNF’s health administration program is one of only 34 programs that have been awarded national program certification from the AUPHA.

Offering a distinct degree identified with health services administration will give prospective students and employers the ability to distinguish between the educational preparation of these students and those of the other Health Science Major tracks. Additionally, the separate degree will enhance recruiting and allow easier tracking of alumni careers as required by AUPHA for program certification renewal. As the health administration curriculum is currently taught under the BSH degree, creation of the BHA degree will not require additional funding for courses, faculty, or other program resources.
