Recognition of Latin Honors Distinction for Graduates

The Academic Standards Committee recommends the following change to the Recognition of Latin Honors Distinction for Graduates:

Recognition of Latin Honors Distinction for Graduates
Candidates who will have accumulated forty-eight (48) hours at UNF at the end of the term of graduation and have the appropriate GPA prior to the end of the term of graduation will have honors on their name card and may receive receive receive a gold cord. at the commencement ceremony. Candidates who will have earned honors after the current term's grades are recorded will not have honors on their name card, will not receive a gold cord, and will not nor nor be recognized at the commencement ceremony, but will have honors posted on their  diploma (baccalaureate degree only).

Rationale: A transfer student who takes 15 semester hours during the semester he or she plans to graduate who also has the appropriate GPA prior to the term of graduation is excluded from being recognized with Latin Honors at graduation. The recommended change will allow these students to receive Latin Honors recognition at the commencement ceremony. No change is being made to the Latin Honors Distinction Policy which appears below.

Latin Honors Distinction Policy

Provided at least forty-eight (48) semester hours (30 hours for RN-BSN students) of course work have been completed at UNF, undergraduate students who graduate with UNF grade point averages of 3.5 or higher will qualify for degrees designated cum laude; those who graduate with UNF grade point averages of 3.65 will qualify for degrees designated magna cum laude; and those who graduate with UNF grade point averages of 3.8 will qualify for degrees designated summa cum laude. GPA calculations for Latin Honors will be based on all credits earned at UNF. A minimum of thirty (30) hours is required for honors in a second baccalaureate degree.
