Subject: Response to FA Question

Response to Question from the February 5, 2009 Faculty Association Meeting asked by Dr. Scott Hochwald
Question Synopsis-I:
Another noise issue:  Rooms next to math classes have loud videos and are distracting.  Can something be done with scheduling so that noise can be taken into consideration when room assignments are made?

Response:  First, I must apologize for not responding to this question earlier.  I hadn’t realized until I saw the April Faculty Association Agenda that I was responsible for answering this question.  Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.  At any given time, noise intrusion into classrooms can be an issue – this is especially the case for classes scheduled adjacent to film classes.  That said, we understand the distractions caused by such noise.  As such, to the extent possible, Ms. Andrea McLeod, Assistant Director Enrollment Services who has responsibility for classroom scheduling, has attempted to place all film courses in classrooms that should have the least chance of disruption.  We are hopeful that such scheduling will avoid the problem raised by Dr. Hochwald’s question.
