Subject: FW: Faculty Association Question
Scott Hochwald raised the question at the last Faculty Association meeting regarding a left turn lane at the intersection near UPD and Parking Services. I was not sure if this made an official question, which needed an answer. If so, please see below response. I am also forwarding to Scott.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Subject: Faculty Association Question
I have researched the faculty association question raised regarding left turn for westbound traffic at the intersection near UPD and Parking services. Their analysis concluded that two westbound lanes should be maintained and that there was sufficient width in that section of roadway to have a dedicated left turn lane (3 to 4 cars deep) with a signal detector loop in the roadway to identify when someone was trying to turn left.
This has been reviewed by the roadway resurfacing design firm and they have concurred with this conclusion. The road resurfacing project is scheduled to begin sometime after end of Spring Term. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the congestion at this intersection. We will of course be monitoring traffic patterns after the road resurfacing project is complete and will “tweak” as best we can.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
