Subject: Faculty Association Question - Email Blocking
Kathy,
With regard to email anti-spam filtering, UNF does not explicitly block ANY domains, EDU or otherwise
Instead we apply policies to incoming email to either allow or reject email from specific email servers based on the reputation score of the sending mail server’s IP address.
We obtain this reputation score for each incoming email server’s IP address through a paid subscription service to the world’s largest email and web traffic monitoring service.
UNF receives literally 3-4 million email messages daily. Of this, approximately 98% is rejected outright as SPAM. It would be virtually impossible to notify everyone when an email has been rejected.
Of the 2% that is not rejected outright, there may still be some possible SPAM. This is quarantined and an email is sent to the intended recipient who is given an opportunity to release items that have been quarantined.
When this specific problem became known, UNF worked with IT staff at the other institution to address and resolve the issue.
