MED- Special Education Major
Applied Behavior Analysis Track |
|
Summary of the Changes:
In the proposed concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), students will obtain competency in the basic principles with particular emphasis on interventions for children with developmental disabilities or emotional/behavioral disorders.
Examples of these applications include: building the skills and achievements of children in school settings; enhancing the development, abilities, and choices of children and adults with different kinds of disabilities; and augmenting the performance and satisfaction of employees in organizations and businesses. Currently, there are 6 universities in Florida that are offering courses that will lead to board certification in applied Behavior Analysis. We have had several requests from individuals over that past 3 years for this program. In responding to the need, we have developed the concentration specialization that includes the following 3 credit courses that are already in existence:
EEX 5612 Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis I-3 credits
EEX 5617 Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis II- 3credits
EEX 5619 ABA in Developmental Disabilities and Autism – 3 credits
EEX 6625 Applied Behavior Analysis: Education and Performance Management- 3 credits
EEX 6301 Research in Special Education – 3 credits
We believe this concentration (totaling 15 hours) will increase our enrollment at the graduate level. (Click here to view the program of study) |

MEMORANDUM
To: APC Committee Members
From: Len Roberson, Chair
Exceptional Student and Deaf Education
Date: September 9, 2008
Re.: No additional resources
In anticipation of your request, I offer this memorandum. The attached APC 3 to establish a new “concentration” in Applied Behavior Analysis does not require new resources. The 5 courses that make up the concentration area of ABA are all existing courses that we teach on a regular basis. They are taught by doctoral holding faculty and, in some cases, doctoral holding part-time faculty.
