SWE Bowling

Bowling Nights
This past year, SWE introduced monthly Bowling Nights at the Beach Bowl of Jacksonville Beach.  It quickly became one of our favorite events!  Engineers from SWE and other societies came to enjoy a fun Friday night of bowling with friends. Bowling Night is a great way to get to know other UNF engineers in a relaxed, casual environment. We look forward to continuing this SWE tradition in the coming year.

Krispy Kreme
One of the many events SWE held this year was the Krispy Kreme Fundraiser. To help support our club’s future events and activities, we sold donuts at the Engineering Building. The Krispy Kreme Fundraiser was this year’s most delicious event!

SWE T-Shirts

T-shirts
Our SWE T-shirts is one of our most popular fundraisers. We sell the shirts all year long in several different styles, including a polo featuring an embroidered SWE logo and a hunter green shirt with the SWE logo. Our humorous “Top 5 Reasons to Date an Engineer” is a campus favorite!

Auction
The Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction is an annual SWE event held in the Spring Semester around Valentine’s Day.  It is one of our most successful fundraisers.  We “auction off” engineering students.  Whoever bids the highest gets a date!

Chick-Fil-a

Chick-fil-A
For the Chick-fil-A fundraiser, SWE went to the Chick-fil-A at St. John’s Town Center.  For every receipt we received, we got 20% of the amount paid.

SWE Regional Conference
SWE Region D Conference, Illuminations: Women Collaborating to Enlighten the World was held in Coral Gables, Florida February 28th through March 2nd 2008. It was hosted by the University of Miami. Our section had five 'SWEeties' and three men attend. Conference was kicked off with a social on the pool deck on Thursday evening. Friday we took a guided tour through a small portion of the everglades to learn about the restoration project and the ecosystem. We returned in time to attend that evening’s welcome reception at the Coral Gables Country Club. Saturday was filled with several workshops including a presentation by IBM, a career fair, and salsa dancing 101 on the campus of the University of Miami. Conference was wrapped up Saturday evening with the awards banquet at the University of Miami President Donna Shalala’s historic Coral Gables home. We received an award for most attendees and an award for retention of membership.

SWE Leadership Retreat
The 2008 summer SWE Leadership Retreat was held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The retreat was presented as a "self-journey" and a seminar on alternative ways to solve our problems. We began the conference by determining what "type" of person we are using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators. Are we an introvert or an extravert? Use our intuition or our senses? A thinker or a feeler? Judgemental or perspective? These things defined who we were and how we perceive and communicate with the world. Ultimately it showed us better ways to communicate with our peers. We had learned that in order to reach a goal, there must be compromise. This segued well into the 2nd half of the retreat. We learned that there are many ways of applying your imagination to a challenge or obstacle. Several brainstorming techniques were introduced and practiced by the participants. The information gleaned added several useful tools to our officers’ collection of skills.
