1. Jan. 21, 2007 - False fire alarm (Bldg. S of the Crossings) - After a fire alarm was triggered in Building S of the Crossings, a University Police Department officer arrived to oversee the evacuation. Noticing no signs of fire, the officer investigated the area and found the seal on a fire extinguisher was broken, causing the alarm to sound. The officer reset the alarm and advised the building's resident assistant of the situation. A key audit of the room where the fire extinguisher was located determined the last person who had entered the room. The officer attempted to contact the suspect, but he was unavailable. A contact card was left with his roommate.
2. Feb. 1, 2007 - Lost property (Bldg. 14)
3. Feb. 1, 2007 - Possession of alcoholic beverage by person under 21 (Bldg. R of the Crossings)
4. Feb. 1, 2007 - Lost property (Bldg. 38)
5. Feb. 2, 2007 - Intoxicated persons (Osprey Hall)
6. Feb. 3, 2007 - Petty theft, unauthorized use of motor vehicle (Lot 15) - After discovering that her 2003 Volkswagen had been stolen from Lot 17, the vehicle's owner contacted UPD. The officer met the complainant in Lot 15, where she advised the officer that her car had been returned damaged and money had been stolen from her wallet. The vehicle's right front headlight and the grill under the front bumper were missing, the driver-side door was damaged around the hinges, the front passenger side tire was damaged, and the front hood was bent near its lock. The victim's purse was returned, but it was missing $128.
The officer made contact with the suspect and read him his constitutional rights. The suspect said he had taken the victim's keys and driven her car to Mandarin and Sanford. After running the suspect's name, the officer was informed that the suspect had an outstanding writ for failure to appear for Grand Theft Auto. The suspect was arrested and taken to a
detention facility.
7. Feb. 4, 2007 - Intoxicated persons (Bldg. Q of the Crossings) - UPD was contacted in reference to a severely inebriated resident of the Crossings. An office made contact with the resident as he was sitting on the bed in his room. While holding an ice pack on his forehead, the suspect told the officer that he had hit his head on the bed rail after drinking half of a 1.5 liter bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum.
The suspect's roommate advised the officer that the intoxicated resident often drinks and passes out in his bed. After disposing of the alcohol on scene, the officer suggested the suspect be transported to the Gateway Community Services Adult Detox. The case was referred to Student Conduct.
8. Feb. 4, 2007 - Resident relocation (Bldg. D of the Village) - A disagreement among roommates that started during the Florida-Georgia football game led to the relocation of one of the residents. The hostility began when the complainant came back to his room in Building D during the weekend of the game.
The complainant said he called UPD on his roommates after he found a large amount of alcohol in the room. While no report was generated based on his call, the complainant's roommates became very angry with him for reporting them to UPD. The complainant told UPD that he was growing increasingly nervous in his room due to the presence of a five-inch hunting knife that belonged to his roommate. After months of tension and an alleged confrontation, the complainant was relocated temporarily to a room in Osprey Landing.
