POLICE BEAT
Nov. 1 - Simple assault
A verbal altercation between a Parking Services employee and a disgruntled motorist led to a call to UPD.
While on patrol, the Parking Services employee documented a vehicle that he recognized as having outstanding parking citations.
The employee decided to retrieve a camera from Building 41 to document the vehicle so he advised a fellow coworker to park a golf cart in front it to block it in.
When the employee returned with the camera, he noticed that the owner of the offending vehicle had returned. The owner tried to push the golf cart out of
the way.
After failing to remove the cart, the aggravated owner threatened to smash the employee's head in and asked him, "Bitch, why are you shaking?"
The employee called UPD after he felt that he had "no means of defense against physical attack." After trying to move the golf cart and failing once again, the suspect took a phone call and told the person on the other line that he needed to leave before he "tore up some punk ass bitch."
During the UPD officer's investigation, the suspect remained cooperative.
The employee was issued a State Attorney's Car and contact information for the Victim's Advocate.
Nov. 1 - Unauthorized use of building
A UPD officer on patrol around Buidling 43 noticed approximately 50 people walking around to a side entrance.
The officer noticed the group was trying to enter the building. A member of the congregation told the officer that he worked for the University Center and that he was the representative allowing the group to enter the building.
The officer later found out that the group of individuals massed outside the building was a fraternity pledge class and that the subject who approached the officer earlier was not an employee of the University Center, but an employee of Chartwells.
The subject revised his story to say that the fraternity had gotten permission from a night supervisor at the University Center named "Bob." The officer was informed that the fraternity was preparing to administer a test to evaluate the pledge's knowledge of their fraternity's history.
The officer asked the custodial personnel in Building 43 if they knew of a night supervisor named "Bob."
The staff were unaware of any supervisors by that name.
