POLICE BEAT

Sept. 22 - Drug possession
A resident in Building Y reported an odor of marijuana coming through the air vent in her room. She said when she walked outside, she noticed the same odor coming from the room next to her. She tried to make contact with the occupants of the room, was unsuccessful, and told an officer she could see people walking up to the peep hole to see who it was.

The officer tried to make contact with occupants and was successful. The officer advised the occupants that the room spelled as if marijuana had just been smoked. The occupants denied any involvement. While searching the room, the officer found bottles of tequila and rum. The occupants denied possession of the alcohol.

The area coordinator found a baggie full of tobacco in the trash, which appeared to have been pulled out from a cigar to roll a marijuana blunt. Upon further investigation, police discovered what appeared to be a couple of marijuana seeds. The three subjects were referred to student conduct.

Oct. 3 - Vandalism
A complainant notified police that while walking from Building 12 to Building 2, he noticed the glass cover from one of the Canteen Vending machines had been kicked out of place.

The officer dispatched to the scene said he did not notice an abundance of any product missing. Latent prints were not lifted due to the volume of high traffic at the vending machines area, and the camera between Buildings 3 and 4 was oscillating and wasn't positioned high enough to pick up the vending area. The product was moved to Building 41 to prevent any thefts from occurring. There are no suspects at this time.

Oct. 4 - Fraudulent identification
A police officer conducting a traffic deployment pulled over a truck on an access road between lots 18 and 34. When the officer approached the driver, he asked him for his driver's license, registration and insurance card. When the driver opened his wallet, the officer noticed another Florida driver's license in the wallet while he handed the other license to the officer.

When the officer asked the driver if he had another driver's license or identification card in his wallet, he told him "no."

The officer told him to open his wallet again and noticed another driver's license, with the same information as the one he handed to the officer, but with an altered date of birth. The year of birth had been changed from 1986 to 1983.

While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed a can of Coors Light lying on the floorboard in the backseat. The driver was issued a notice to appear for being in possession of a duplicate driver's license with an altered date of birth.

The officer recommended the driver be referred to student conduct.

Oct. 6 - Alcohol possession
While patrolling the area of Parking Lot 10, two police officers noticed a suspicious looking male standing next to his truck, seemingly trying to conceal himself from view.

A second male then walked through the parking lot from Osprey Landing and met the first male behind a car parked next to the truck.

The officers observed the two men placing items into a bag and a "clinking" sound consistent with glass bottles striking each other.

When they approached the two men on foot, they tried to lower the trunk, but the officers located 46 bottles of beer.

One of the men stated a buddy of his purchased the products for $16 and said they were in the process of returning to their room, where another roommate was waiting with more alcoholic beverages. The officer remained with the men while they poured out the alcoholic beverages.

The investigation resulted in three notices to appear for possession of alcoholic beverages while under 21 years of age.
