The University of North Florida’s Board of Trustees recently ratified a
collective bargaining agreement between the university and the faculty March
15 – a controversial issue that has taken about three years to finalize.
The new contract, effective March 15, includes specific provisions for
tenure and promotion, as well as merit pay, where the previous contract
under the Board of Regents did not, according to Cheryl Frohlich, associate
professor of finance and president of the local chapter of United Faculty of
Florida who served as chief negotiator for the UFF bargaining team.
