Decal theft rises

By Laura Sweat
Contributing Writer

Students have filed approximately 30 reports for lost or stolen decals since the beginning of the fall term.

Theft of personal property continues to be a concern for University of North Florida students, while the occurrence of more serious crimes is decreasing.

“I knew no one was after me,” said Keri Kilpatrick, a junior sports leadership major and a victim of parking decal theft. “They were just stealing random people’s stuff.”

When Kilpatrick went to the University Police Department to report the stolen decal, she was informed that this was not an isolated incident and that four other people had come in that morning with the same complaint.

By Holli Welch
Contributing Writer

Midnight Madness opened the season Oct. 14 with scrimmages by the men’s and women’s basketball teams, performances by the dance team and cheerleaders, free ice cream, competitions and giveaways.

The women’s team was led by returning seniors, Kayla Sheldon, Karli Knudsen, Alana Mountfield and Jackie Beik.

“I am really excited about the new players we have, and so far we have been really pleased with their efforts,” said women’s head coach Mary Tappmeyer.

All members of the teams participated in the scrimmages.

The men’s team showcased its dunking skills during the practice, led by seniors David Ashwell and Alain Laroche, and junior Rashad Williams. They continued during the dunk contest, as Laroche took the competition with three dunks and a score of 65.

Skate park funded, not planned

"Despite SG approval, future of skate park still uncertain "

By John Woodward
Contributing Writer

The fate of the University of North Florida’s skate park is buried in speculation, as officials from Student Government and the Office of Facilities Planning have not decided on details of the project — such as who will build the park.

Despite the skate park’s approval in the SG February election, momentum to finish the park has slowed and many students are unaware of the details surrounding the completion date or the location of the park.
