Stetson Kennedy coming to UNF

Ann Luce
News Editor

Author and political activist Stetson Kennedy, known for his infiltration of the Ku Klux Klan in the late 1940s, is returning to the University of North Florida 1:30 p.m. April 10 in Building 9, room 1421. Kennedy's visit, sponsored by the department of English and foreign languages, will inform students about how his infiltration of the KKK and his current fight against home front terrorism.

He will also discuss his book "The Klan Unmasked." This will be Kennedy's third visit to the university. His first, in December 2000, was canceled when Kennedy walked into a fence that was hanging onto the sidewalk around the Fine Arts Building construction site and was injured. Kennedy was taken to St. Luke's hospital where he was treated for lacerations. Kennedy visited UNF again in February 2001 to make-up for his missed lecture in December. He talked with students about his relationships with fellow authors Langston Hughes, Richard Wright and others. He mentioned in that lecture he "never did have a hankering for a literary career." For more information on Kennedy's visit to UNF April 10, contact Dr. Gary Harmon in the department of English and foreign languages at gharmon@unf.edu.
