The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics offers an undergraduate program in nutrition culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Health (BSH) degree. Students who complete the BSH degree concentration in nutrition and obtain the registered dietitian (RD) credential are qualified to work in a variety of settings. Hospitals, health departments, home health agencies, wellness centers, nursing homes, school districts, food companies, clinics, universities and mental health centers all employ RD’s. Many RD’s have private practices as well. Graduates who do not obtain the RD credential most often seek employment in food service management and community health.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Program, also called the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD),  is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association. In addition to completing the DPD, students who desire to become registered dietitians must also complete a supervised practice experience in a CADE accredited internship program and pass a national registration examination. Internship placements are competitive and range from 6 to 24 months in length. Students typically apply for internships during the senior year and if accepted, they start the internship in August following graduation. A list of CADE accredited internship programs can be found at http://old.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/CADE_401_ENU_HTML.htm

Other Information
Students with a bachelor's degree in another discipline who wish to complete UNF's nutrition program must apply for admission to the university. After acceptance to UNF the student will meet with a Brooks College of Health advisor for a transcript evaluation and an official Program of Study outlining the sequence of required classes.

Nutrition students are encouraged to be active and engaged citizens. There are opportunities for membership and leadership positions within the UNF Student Nutrition Club, the Jacksonville Dietetic Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the Florida Dietetic Association. Campus and community volunteer opportunities are plentiful.
