Legislative Branch

The Legislative Branch consists of 46 student senate seats consisting of appointed and elected students. Elections, which take place both in the spring and the fall, act as the voice of the student body. They are responsible for allocating and overseeing the $3.1 million dollar Activity and Service Fee Budget. Each senator is required to serve on various committees in the Senate representing different student concerns.

Senate President

James Paul Cima was born in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The son of James and Gloria Cima, James is one of four children. James attended The King’s Academy of West Palm Beach and graduated in 2005. James was involved in football, basketball, and track throughout his high school years.

James was elected into the Student Government at UNF as the Brooks College of Health Seat in fall 2007 and has been serving as a senator ever since. James was the Budget and Allocations Chair for the 2008-2009 term and was elected as Senate President for 2008-2009. In addition to Student Government, James is also the President of the Exercise Science Student Association, vice-president external of the College Republicans club, treasurer of Converge Campus Ministry and the Chaplain of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Upon graduation, James plans to pursue a career in chiropractic medicine.

Jessica Antionette Amick was born and raised is St. Petersburg, Florida. Daughter of John Amick, Jessica is one of three girls. Jessica attended St. Petersburg Catholic High School and was on the varsity swim team all four years. She also spent many ours volunteering around her community.

Jessica was elected to serve UNF in fall 2008 as a Senator and served on the Elections, Selections, and Appointments Committee. Jessica was elected as the Senate President Pro-Tempore and also serves on the Constitution and Statues Committee.

In addition to Student Government, Jessica is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and is focusing on her major in Education. After graduation, she wants to peruse a career in Elementary Education and work towards a graduate degree in Early Childhood Education.

Committees

Budget & Allocations Committee

The Budget and Allocations Committee is the gatekeeper to the Activity and Service Fee Budget. The Committee allocates funds to registered student organizations and allocates the yearly A&S Fee Fiscal Budget.

Constitution & Statutes Committee
Chair: Melissa Ashley - sgacsc@unf.edu

The Constitution and Statutes Committee oversees and continually reviews the SG Constitution and Statutes. The Committee interviews appointees to the Judicial Counsel. CSC essentially serves as the Senate's "Rules" Committee.

Elections, Selections & Appointments Committee
Chair: Erica Richey - sgaesac@unf.edu

The Elections, Selections, and Appointments Committee coordinates the two elections each year and interviews appointees to the Senate. This committee's chairperson acts as the SG Elections Supervisor.

Student Advocacy Committee
Chair: Danielle Tarangelo - sgasac@unf.edu

The Student Advocacy Committee is the liaison between the Student Body and the Student Senate. They focus on the issues of students and promote programming for the student body as a whole.
