UNF Arts Group Releases Inaugural CD
EAT, a new CD Magazine based at the University of North Florida is releasing its inaugural CD, featuring word, sound and song, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the UNF Art Gallery, located on the first floor of Founders Hall (Building 2). This event is free and open to the public.
The CD, titled EAT 1, contains readings and performances by artists who make art that enters through the ear. One piece, a sonic sculpture shaped from stray sounds and overheard conversations, resonates with strangeness and familiarity. Another, a report on surviving a violent attack, excavates meaning of “beauty” out of physical and psychological pain. From jazzy riffs of syllables to whispered confidences to blues and oral history and poems of devastating brevity, EAT 1 brings together diverse voices in way that attains remarkable coherence.
“There’s nothing really like this CD that I’ve ever heard, “said Mark Ari, faculty member and EAT founder. “Great people here at UNF put this together and truly wonderful artists contributed their work. It’s no wonder something remarkable came out of it.”
The EAT 1 CD costs $10 and can be purchased at the release event or can be ordered through e-mail at eatstaff@yahoo.com. EAT will be sponsoring a book fair at the St. Johns Town Center Barnes and Noble Thursday, March 29, through Sunday, April 1 from (insert time). CDs will be available for purchase at the book fair. All proceeds will go towards the EAT’s second CD, EAT 2, which is already in production.
