JEWISH/ISRAELI
MOVIE NIGHT: "EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED"
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 8:00 PM
BUILDING 15 ROOM 1202
This is a dark
comedy starring Elijah Wood. The story is about a man
who travels to Ukraine to discover a family secret. There will be
popcorn, twizzlers, and refreshments served. Building 15 is accross the
sidewalk from Outtakes, near the green. We will be watching in room
1202, one of the big lecture halls. All are welcome--spread the word
and bring friends.
9/13 Thursday: It's Rosh Hashanna and you all need a place to have some
nice Jewish cooking! Contact me to be placed in a setting that's most
comfortable for you. The Ahavath Chesed committee (part of the reformed
temple) will be hosting services at 10:30 AM and there will be an
amazing lunch afterwards at Mary Edwards' home (Flyer can be seen at
the
bottom of the email). Chabad will be putting on services and an
outstanding meal as well. The Conservative Synnagogue, JJC, has free
tickets for anyone who wants to attend services. Contact me!

VOLLEYBALL, FRISBEE, SOCCER, SAND CASTLES ,BEACH, JEWS!

Hot
dogs, burgers, vegetarian options, salads, chips, cookies, etc.
will be served free of charge. Also, we will have a volleyball game,
sand castle building, frisbee, and much more. Please RSVP ASAP to this
address letting me know that you plan to attend. Those who need a ride
will meet on the green at 11:00 am--otherwise, meet us at Hana
park.
9/24 Monday: 8:00 PM The Martin J. Gottleib Day School is building a
sukkah for us! We need to decorate it! Come contribute your artistic
abilities and help us make decorations. Light snacks will be served.
*9/25 Tuesday: 9:30 AM Martin J. Gottleib Day School Sukkah building
on
the green! Don't know what a Sukkah is? Come find out!
10/2 Tuesday: 8:00 PM Dinner in Sukkah followed by an Israeli movie
called Ushpizin! If you haven't seen it, you are missing out! This
movie is both hilarious and extremely touching, and it has to do with
the Jewish holiday of Sukkot! Come eat, watch, and enjoy!
10/5 Friday: Simchas Torah. One of the most joyous Jewish holidays.
More info will be provided on how and where to celebrate the annual
completion of the Torah reading! It really is a blast dancing around
with the Torah and partying it up with your fellow Jews!
*10/7 Sunday: Community service oppurtunity. Whether we serve lunch
to
the elderly or help feed the homeless, we plan to do a lot this year
for
our community. Come out and help!
10/13 Saturday: 9:00 PM Havdalah at Amanda's. Havdalah is the extremely
brief Jewish ceremony of saying "farewell" to Shabbat (the
Sabbath). It
involves, wine, fire, and spices! What could be better?
Basically, this is an excuse to PARTY!! on a Saturday night.
10/21 Sunday: Ichnetucknee springs!! This is going to be great!
Tubing along the river and enjoying the great outdoors! Don't miss this
amazing oppurtunity!
*10/25 Thursday: 8:00 PM Lasagna dinner/schmoozing. This year has been
so busy already! Let's relax and have some lasagna!
10/27 Saturday: 9:30 PM Ghost tour in St. Augustine! Halloween is
approaching and we need to get in the spirit. This sounds like the
perfect idea!
*11/? Date Undecided: In an effort to raise Israeli awareness on our
campus, we are going to do a campus-wide event on the green in November.
If you have any ideas, let me know.
*11/12 Monday: We have off
for veterans day, so let's take a trip down
to Disney and help Henri Landworth, a Holocaust Survivor, with his
foundation for children. This is a great community service oppurtunity.
11/18 Sunday: Bike Riding! We are going to rent out a bunch of bikes
and take a guided bike trip around the UNF nature reserves or some other
beautiful area in Jacksonville!
*11/20 Tuesday: Intercultural Thanksgiving! Let's host a Kosher
Thanksgiving dinner to share with all the different cultures at UNF.
12/4 Tuesday: Channukah Party followed by Menorah Lighting on the
green! We are going to illuminate the green on the first night of
Channukah!
12/6 Thursday: 6:00 PM Dinner with the Intercultural Center for Peace!
Quiche, Blintze Souflee, and most importantly, LATKES!
