Sample Appeal Letter sent by AI@UNF on 16 November 2001
We addressed
(on 15 Nov. 2001) the plight of the two below-mentioned prisoners
of conscience being held in Mexico under suspicions that were
created by parties at odds with the preservation of old-growth
forests in the state of Guerrero, MX. President Fox has publicly
announced his sympathy for both prisoners, but actions taken
to release the two are slowly developing at this time; all
the while they are in danger of torture and possibly death.

Sr. Presidente,
I humbly
urge you to press for the immediate and unconditional release
of Rodolfo Montiel and Teodoro Cabrera. I am concerned about
substantiated reports of torture and coercion and know that
you stand fast against such tactics and violations of human
rights. In the case of those who are responsible for creating
false charges of drug trafficking and weapons possession,
as well as those who have used torture against these innocent
men, please see that they are quickly and impartially investigated
and brought to justice. Our deepest respect and hopes for
Mexico and your leadership as your great country emerges in
this new millennium. We are most proud of the progress Mexico
has made under your administration. We look forward to the
good news again at the resolution of the unfortunate imprisonment
of your great countrymen who are working to save Mexicos
beautiful natural resources. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Viva Mexico,
