Parents

It is without question as to why you would have reservations sending your son or daughter to school and supporting them in wanting to join a fraternity or sorority. With the likes of the propaganda of Animal House or Old School, or even all the seemingly constant negative press on Greek organizations, it would seem very unlikely to have your initial full and unbridled support!

But here’s the truth: Stereotypes, myths, and misconceptions have plagued the name of fraternities and sororities for years. And, Greeks are going above and beyond to change the false and horrible image that has been created by movies and the mistakes of a few in the media. Here at UNF, students have logged hundreds of community service hours and donated tens of thousands of dollars to charities…we have worked with the community in Relay for Life, the Gate River Run, Habijax, Builder’s Care, the Donna Hicken Foundation, Shands, Children’s Miracle Network, Big Brothers and Sisters of NE Florida, and several other local entities in the effort to become better and more well-rounded people, but also to do what we do best: SERVE. Check out the section on this site on WHY GO GREEK, and see the amazing and TRUE FACTS on Greeks and Greek Life.

It is my firm belief that the challenges and rewards of college life can be richly enhanced through the fraternity or sorority experience. Students of all backgrounds and cultures have found a place for themselves in UNF fraternities and sororities. Simply put, Greek Life adds a dimension to one's college experience that is not found in other organizations.

UNF fraternity and sorority members hold high academic standards, develop and strengthen leadership skills, create a support network, and develop long-lasting friendships.

The University of North Florida is committed to the positive development of our Greek-affiliated students. Involvement in a fraternity or sorority can enrich the undergraduate experience and provide a strong foundation for cognitive, social, and personal development. I strongly encourage your son or daughter to "Get Ready for the IMPACT" in the UNF Greek Community. The benefits will continue far beyond college and last a lifetime.

In short, you have my promise and my word: If your son or daughter does not excel to new and formally unknown heights as a student of this university and overall as a person after joining a fraternity or sorority here at the University of North Florida, please call or email me immediately so that we can talk – we will make things right. I have sheer and unlimited passion for Greeks, I love to draw-out the GREATNESS that is within them, and I took this position for one main reason: TO IMPACT LIVES.

Believing in them,
