Sigma Mu Chapter

Order of Omega Greek Honor Society was founded in 1959 to honor leaders within the Greek community who excel in academics and leadership. The Sigma Mu chapter of Order of Omega was established at University of North Florida in 2000. Our chapter dedicates itself especially to serving the Jacksonville, UNF, and North Florida Greek communities. The Sigma Mu chapter of Order of Omega unites North Florida Greeks by holding representation from all four Greek councils. We use our common bond as Greek leaders to better our campus, our community, and ourselves.

History

The Order of Omega was founded at the University of Miami in the fall of 1959 by a group of outstanding fraternity men, who felt that individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their service to the fraternity system and the University.

Purpose of Omega

To recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in interfraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.To bring together outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs. To bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution's fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness; To help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions.

JOIN

All Greek men and women who serve as leaders either internally or externally are encouraged to apply for membership into the Sigma Mu Chapter of Order of Omega. The requirements for membership are as follows:

-One full academic year at the University of Florida

-Junior or Senior standing (60+ hours completed)

-Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

-Be in good standing with her or his fraternal organization

All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. Please return your typed application in a sealed envelope marked Order of Omega to Anna Kate Pearce in the Greek Council Office in Greek Affairs by October 1st, 2007.
