Step One: Application and Application Fee
All graduate applicants must complete and submit either a printed application form or an online application. Post-baccalaureate and non-degree seeking students must submit the paper application. If the application is submitted in paper format, the application fee is $30.00 (check or money order) drawn from a U.S. bank. If the application is submitted online, the application fee is also $30.00 and may be paid by credit card (UNF does not accept Visa, unfortunately). No application fee is required for post-baccalaureate, non-degree seeking students, or former UNF students.
Step Two: Official College Transcripts
All graduate applicants must provide evidence, in the form of official transcripts, of an earned baccalaureate degree from an approved college or university. An approved college or university is one that has candidacy or membership status with the appropriate regional accrediting agency, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Students should submit one official copy of their transcripts to the Graduate School by the posted deadline. Former UNF students will normally not need to request transcripts unless they have attended an institution since leaving UNF.
Students with degrees earned from institutions outside the United States are required to provide a course-by-course transcript evaluation in addition to their official transcripts. More information about the evaluation may be found on the International Applicants page.
Step Three: GRE and GMAT Test Scores
Students must provide official scores from the appropriate aptitude test. UNF's Institution Code for both exams is 5490.
Students applying for programs in the Coggin College of Business (CCB) must provide official scores from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Students must score a 450 total score on the GMAT as well as a 20 on the verbal portion and 22 on the quantitative portion of the GMAT. Further eligibility for admission to programs in CCB is determined after reviewing the applicant’s transcripts and grade point average (GPA). More information about this process may be found on the CCB website.
Applicants for all other graduate programs should provide official scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test. The GRE is required regardless of a student’s undergraduate GPA. Students with a GPA less than 3.0 (4.0 scale) are required to present combined verbal and quantitative scores from the GRE equal to or greater than 1000. Students whose GPA is less than 3.0 and whose combined GRE score is less than 1000 may be considered under their department’s exceptions policy.
Several programs use a formula involving the undergraduate grade point average and combined GRE scores to determine a student’s eligibility for admission. For more information relating to your program of interest, please visit the Academic Programs web page.
Selected programs exempt students with an earned graduate or professional degree from submitting GRE scores. For more information, please contact the Graduate School. To schedule a GRE test at UNF, contact the Office of Academic Testing at 620-1973.
The UNF Division of Continuing Education offers GRE and GMAT prep courses throughout the year. More information about the dates and times of these courses can be found here. Test preparation books are also available at the UNF Library and Bookstore.
Step 4: Supplemental Materials
Many programs require letters of recommendation, personal statements, or writing samples to supplement the application. You should check the graduate catalog for more information about the requirements of your program. A list of the requirements for each program can be found here.
