The History graduate program is gaining exciting recognition right now for its ground breaking work on Spanish paleography. Dr. Michael Francis, UNF history professor, and history graduate student Kathleen Kole, reexamined an Indian manuscript from Spanish Florida from the 16 th century. Kathleen, whose initial interests were in colonial Latin American history, became interested in paleography when she took on of Dr. Francis's courses. Kathleen has spent two summers in Spain studying thousands of manuscripts. Working with Dr. Francis has allowed her to start training as a historian and has helped refiner her skills to continue on in this profession. Currently, Kathleen has applied to several doctoral programs and has been accepted to Cambridge University. However, she is still waiting to hear from Yale, UNC Chapel Hill, and the University of Wisconsin. She hopes that after obtaining her PhD, she will obtain a position at a university that will allow her to continue her research on Spanish Florida.
