Doctor of Nursing Practice

Program Overview

Objectives for the program are based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing essentials for Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice (2006). The program objectives build upon those for the masters in nursing program. The objectives (graduate learning outcomes) for the DNP program may be found below, under "Mission and Goals."

Special Notes About the Program The DNP provides the highest level of clinical preparation for nursing educators.

Applications are accepted for fall term only.

Admissions Requirements

1. Master's degree in a nursing specialty from a nationally accredited program
2. Certified in area of specialty
3. Graduate GPA 3.3
4. A competitive score on the GRE, or demonstrated success in previous doctoral coursework, or submit a copy of your masters project or thesis (to be evaluated by admissions committee)
5. Negative background check
6. Negative drug screen
7. Hold an active license as a registered nurse or advanced practice registered nurse in the jurisdiction in which you practice
8. A portfolio to include: (a) a copy of graduate transcript and description of educational preparation; (b) a description of past clinical experiences including role and function; (c) identification of scholarly endeavors; (d) a description of professional and community activities; (e) an essay describing professional goals and how the program will enhance future goals and activities; and (f) a copy of current nursing license and certification in practice area
9. Three letters of reference which address academic ability and clinical skills
10. Official copies of all transcripts
