SUS Graduate Assistant Position Descriptions

Graduate Assistant: a funded graduate student with duties connected to instruction who has less than 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline. This person cannot be the instructor of record for any course or any portion of a course; that would violate SACS requirements. In carrying out his or her duties, this graduate student requires close faculty supervision.

Graduate Teaching Assistant: a funded graduate student with duties connected to instruction who has at least 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline. This person can be the instructor of record for a course or a portion of a course, but faculty supervision is still necessary.

Graduate Teaching Associate: a funded graduate student with duties connected to instruction who has at least 30 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline. This person can be the instructor of record, but faculty supervision is still necessary.

Graduate Research Assistant: a funded graduate student with duties connected to research.

Graduate Research Associate: a funded graduate student with duties connected to research who has at least 30 graduate credit hours.
