Master of Public Health
Mission
The mission of the MPH Program at the University of North Florida is to prepare public health professionals who have the knowledge and skills necessary for careers aimed at improving the health of diverse populations. This mission is accomplished through excellence and innovation in graduate teaching and public health research, and a commitment to community and professional service that promotes healthy populations.
Graduates of UNF's MPH Program will:
GLO 1 (Core): Demonstrate understanding and skills in applying biostatistics and research methodology for effective collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of health related scientific data.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring application of biostatistical and research methodology to study and evaluate a public health problem.
GLO 2 (Core): Demonstrate knowledge and applied skills for studying, understanding and analyzing the distribution and determinants of health related states or events in human populations in order to provide information for public health decision-making and action.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring design, analysis, interpretation, and communication of data from epidemiological studies for various forms of public health action.
GLO 3 (Core): Demonstrate understanding and skills to address complex issues involved in the ecology of public health problems related to aspects of the environment for purposes of identification, investigation and mitigation of environmental risk factors.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring demonstration of knowledge and skills employed in assessment of key environmental health problems in the population.
GLO 4 (Core): Demonstrate understanding of the areas of policy, economics, finance, marketing, quality, and accessibility that are necessary to effectively manage public health care organizations and services.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam questions requiring understanding of current critical public health policy and management issues.
GLO 5 (Core/Specialization): Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to plan and implement an evidence-based health program which reflects social, economic, cultural, and behavioral factors of the community.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring application of health planning models to develop an evidence-based health program which reflects community factors to address a given public health problem.
GLO 6 (Core/Specialization): Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement theoretically-based, and developmentally and culturally appropriate learning strategies.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring application of theory and cultural competence to design appropriate learning strategies for a given public health problem and target audience.
GLO 7 (Core/Specialization): Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate a public health program.
Assessment: Comprehensive exam question requiring development of a program evaluation plan.
GLO 8 (Core/Specialization): Demonstrate skills related to effectively communicating public health issues.
Assessment: Written paper or oral presentation related to practice experience project as part of Capstone Course.
