Master of Health Administration

Mission Statement
The mission of the University of North Florida's MHA Program is to prepare individuals to serve as effective administrators, managers and leaders in the wide variety of organizations and agencies that make up the health services field. The Program offers part-time and full-time students the opportunity to, acquire knowledge and skills enabling them to obtain entry level administrative and management positions or advance in established careers. The Program's focus reflects the University's commitment to excellence in education, dissemination of new knowledge gained from individual and collaborative research efforts and contribution of knowledge and expertise to regional and state health organizations through participation in service activities.

Expected Student Outcomes
MHA students will:
• apply theory and demonstrate knowledge and skills in the management of health services and resources in diverse organizational environments
• apply leadership principles in development of effective strategies for achieving professional and organizational objectives, and model professional values, ethical behavior and cultural competence.
• manage information including the collection, statistical and non-statistical analysis, and summarization of management and health data for decision-making.
• apply legal and ethical analysis to business and clinical decision-making.
• assess quality of both business practices and health care delivery focusing on outcomes measurements, process/outcome relationships, and methods for process improvement.
• develop, organize, synthesize and articulate ideas and information in written, oral and electronic formats.

Assessment Strategies:
1) Content/discipline-specific knowledge will be assessed on a course -by-course basis by evaluation of performance on case studies and assigned projects. On completion of the Program coursework, students will complete a comprehensive examination thus allowing measurement of student learning.
2) Leadership skills will be measured by student performance in assigned group exercises throughout the program and in faculty and preceptor evaluation of student performance in the Capstone project and practicum/internship experience.
3) Critical thinking and decision analysis skills will be measured by student performance on select case studies and in assigned group projects including the field-based Capstone project.
4) Communication skills will be measured by evaluation of select written and presentation assignments including the capstone project and the major practicum/residency project. A portfolio of student written work will be collected allowing for evaluation of student progress at various points in the program.
5) Indirect measurement will include skills assessments from exit interviews and career progression data from alumni surveys and pre and post course self-assessment of the program competencies covered in individual program courses.
