Master's of Accountancy
Mission
The mission of the Coggin College of Business is to educate and develop business professionals through rigorous, relevant accredited degree programs offered by faculty devoted to student learning and engaged in scholarly activities. The Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of North Florida shares with the University and the Coggin College its fundamental mission.
The mission theme of the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) Program is to develop the student's proficiency in financial accounting, cost accounting, accounting information systems, auditing and federal income tax to allow students to successfully complete professional accounting examinations. The examinations include the CPA examination, the CMA examination and the CIA examination. These MAcc students are provided with the skill set necessary for successful professional careers in public, private and not-for-profit accounting.
Expected Learning Outcomes
1. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will communicate effectively in oral, written, and electronic formats.
2. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will identify and reconcile ethical issues in decision-making.
3. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will understand the global economy and recognize the impact of diverse socio-economic and cultural factors on business operations.
4. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will acquire knowledge in the major functional areas of business and understand the interrelationships among them, and will demonstrate a capacity to apply this knowledge and understanding in new and unfamiliar circumstances.
5. Coggin College of Business MAcc students successfully completing the MAcc program will demonstrate content knowledge and skills specific to the discipline of Accounting.
6. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will understand how organizations utilize technology to improve accounting and organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
7. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will demonstrate the ability to think critically and innovatively to identify problems, and propose alternatives to these problems and implement solutions, including in unforeseen and unpredictable situations.
8. Coggin College of Business MAcc students will demonstrate an understanding of leadership and will demonstrate a capacity to lead in collaborative settings.
Assessment Strategy
1. Examinations in the required courses will include questions related to the above content/discipline knowledge and skills. Test results will be examined every semester and content coverage and/or testing may be changed as a result of the test results.
2. Individual projects, team projects, research papers, presentations, practice sets, etc. are required and are used to evaluate the above expected learning outcomes. They are examined each semester and are modified, changed as a result of the examination.
