Track: Advanced Teaching and Learning

Mission Statement
The goal of this track is to help participants develop excellence in the planning and delivery of instructional programs for students in pre-school through grade 12. This track is intended for educational leaders who desire to become more effective teachers and who do not wish to become school principals. The mission of the Educational Leadership Program is to ensure academic excellence by both providing and demanding rigor and relevance in our coursework; to ensure excellence in service to our students by leading and teaching in ways that demonstrate commitment and caring for each student; to provide innovative and transformational learning opportunities by knowing and using effective research-based teaching practices; to recognize and celebrate diversity and community among all people by example; to develop partnerships with the region's schools, school systems and higher education institutions by collaborating enthusiastically, and to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by producing relevant and significant scholarship.

Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Educational Leadership Program / Advanced Teaching and Learning Track will be able to:
• demonstrate both an understanding of and respect for ethical standards for educators.
• demonstrate an understanding of the principles of child development and current theories of learning.
• show evidence of the ability to plan effective learning activities founded upon research and data-based decision making.
• demonstrate the skills and dispositions needed to create and maintain learning communities.
• exhibit mastery of the skills of effective communication: to listen well, to write well, to conduct appropriate research in a responsible manner, and to be able to interpret and present appropriate information to a variety of audiences.
• show evidence of the skills and dispositions necessary to welcome and involve parents appropriately to meet the learning needs of their children.
• demonstrate an understanding of the specific requirements placed upon educators pursuant to federal and state laws and local school board policies.

Assessment Strategies
The evaluation of program outcomes occurs during the capstone course, Practicum in Educational Leadership, during which a supervising leader (non-UNF faculty) and the practicum instructor (UNF faculty) observe and evaluate students as they apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions they have developed or acquired during program coursework.

Track: Postsecondary and Adult Studies

Mission Statement
The goal of this track is to prepare participants to plan, deliver, and administer excellent instructional programs for learners in postsecondary settings. This track is intended for educational leaders who wish to work in settings such as professional development, continuing education, adult, and community education. The mission of the Educational Leadership Program is to ensure academic excellence by both providing and demanding rigor and relevance in our coursework; to ensure excellence in service to our students by leading and teaching in ways that demonstrate commitment and caring for each student; to provide innovative and transformational learning opportunities by knowing and using effective research-based teaching practices; to recognize and celebrate diversity and community among all people by example; to develop partnerships with the region's schools, school systems and higher education institutions by collaborating enthusiastically, and to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by producing relevant and significant scholarship.

• exhibit mastery of the skills of effective communication: to listen well, to write well, to conduct appropriate research in a responsible manner, and to be able to interpret and present appropriate information to a variety of audiences.

This track is a state-approved certification/licensure program designed to prepare excellent leaders (school principals and supervisors) for public and private schools serving students in pre-school through grade 12. This track is intended for those seeking certification as school administrators in the state of Florida. The mission of the Educational Leadership Program is to ensure academic excellence by both providing and demanding rigor and relevance in our coursework; to ensure excellence in service to our students by leading and teaching in ways that demonstrate commitment and caring for each student; to provide innovative and transformational learning opportunities by knowing and using effective research-based teaching practices; to recognize and celebrate diversity and community among all people by example; to develop partnerships with the region's schools, school systems and higher education institutions by collaborating enthusiastically, and to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by producing relevant and significant scholarship.

• demonstrate an understanding of the roles and functions of the P - 12 school leader/administrator.
• demonstrate the skills and dispositions necessary to lead effectively in a variety of school settings.
• exhibit mastery of the skills of effective communication: to listen well, to write well, conduct appropriate research in a responsible manner, and to be able to interpret and present appropriate information to a variety of audiences.
• demonstrate the ability to use data appropriately and effectively.
• demonstrate an understanding of the specific requirements placed upon school leaders pursuant to federal and state laws and local school board policies.
• show evidence of the skills and dispositions necessary to welcome and involve parents, students, community members, and other stakeholders in the decision making process.

Assessment Strategies
The program director will monitor students' scores on the Florida Educational Leadership Examination, which is required for certification as a school administrator in the State of Florida . Program faculty will monitor and evaluate a professional portfolio prepared by the students. The portfolio process begins during the first course in the course sequence, Introduction to Educational Leadership. Monitoring takes place at the approximate mid point of the program. Evaluation occurs during the capstone course, Practicum in Educational Leadership, during which a supervising leader (non-UNF faculty) and the practicum instructor (UNF faculty) observe and evaluate students as they apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions they have developed or acquired during program coursework. Program faculty are available to assist students with the development and monitoring of the portfolio throughout the program.
