Bede Clarke: Barbara Ritzman Devereux Visiting Artist Exhibition

UNF Gallery at MOCA

January 28, 2014 - March 9, 2014

Bede Clarke, Professor of Art at the University of Missouri, is the featured artist for the fifth annual Barbara Ritzman Devereux Visiting Exhibition and Workshop.

The Barbara Ritzman Devereux Artist Workshop at the University of North Florida is designed to supplement traditional academic and applied art instruction by providing students the opportunity to work with distinguished artists representing a broad range of visual media.

Clarke earned an MFA from the University of Iowa (1990), and a BFA from Eckerd College (1982). His work is included in public and private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, he has exhibited at Tingge Ceramics Museum 2012 Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA, and Arvada Center for Fine Arts and Humanities, Arvada, CO.

Clarke focuses on simple, direct methods of working in clay, methods that allow compassion and humanity to be heard over the technical virtuosity of a clever hand and a trained eye.

The workshop, free and open to the public, will be held in the UNF Ceramics Lab (Fine Arts Bldg 45, Rm 1504), on Jan 28 & 29 from 9 a.m - 5 p.m.

Observing Objects: Works by Leigh Murphy

UNF Gallery at MOCA

March 25, 2014 - May 11, 2014

"The medium of watercolor is exhilarating in its ability to produce rich brilliant color, its capacity for incredibly fine detail, and varied textures. I want to convey to the viewer the same sense of sublime meditative beauty that I feel when I creating this work. I enjoy the challenge of depicting difficult shapes, light effects, and textures that occur in my work."
