General Burnside

The Burnside crashed one year later as a Union naval flotilla was attempting to cross the St. John River bar and steam upriver to occupy Jacksonville for the fourth time during the war. The vessel floundered and eventually washed ashore a few miles south of the entrance to the river. It was a popular landmark long after the war ended.
