Baldwin

Baldwin was approximately twenty miles west of Jacksonville. It was strategically important as the juncture of two important rail lines: the Florida Railroad, leading from Fernandina on the Atlantic Coast to Cedar Key on the Gulf Coast, and the Florida, Atlantic, and Gulf Central Railroad, leading from Jacksonville to Tallahassee and Quincy.
